Rin (リン) was a medical-nin who appears in the Kakashi Gaiden arc as a former teammate of Kakashi Hatake and a member of Team Minato.

Team MinatoDuring the Third Great Shinobi War, Team Minato is assigned to destroy the Kannabi Bridge. Rin is kidnapped during the course of the mission and her captors, Iwagakure ninja, use genjutsu on her to see if she knows anything about Konoha's war efforts. Kakashi and Obito stage a rescue effort, and though they succeed Obito is crushed in a cave-in. Before he dies he asks Rin to implant his Sharingan eye into Kakashi's damaged eye socket. After the procedure is completed Rin and Kakashi are forced to flee the continuing cave-in, and with the help of Minato go on to complete their mission.

Rin's fate after this is unknown. She is assumed to have died, as Kakashi indicates that he was unable to protect her.

edit PersonalityRin was a sweet and friendly girl who cared for her teammates and leaders. She shares many similarities to Sakura Haruno, such as the medical skills and similar hairstyle. She also had the same position in the love triangle of her team; Obito had a crush on her, but she had a crush on Kakashi. Still, she was much more passive about it than Sakura; while Sakura repeatedly insulted Naruto, calling him stupid and such and almost always siding with Sasuke, Rin actually never called Obito any names or shouted at him, and when trying to break up arguments, she did not take sides. Her crush on Kakashi was not anywhere near as obvious as Sakura's crush on Sasuke, either; up until the time that Rin openly admits her feelings for Kakashi, the caring attitude she showed towards him could have been easily mistaken for teammate-like caring and concern.

edit AbilitiesAs a medical ninja, Rin's primary duty in missions was to give support to her teammates. Despite her age, she was shown skilled enough to aid a team on a high-ranked mission. She also demonstrated high skill by quickly and successfully implanting Obito's remaining Sharingan eye into Kakashi with only basic medical tools.

edit TriviaAlthough she has yet to make an actual appearance in the anime, she is seen in a picture twice. The first time her hair is brown, and the second time it is a dark reddish-brown like in color illustrations from the manga.
One possible meaning of her name means "cold." More likely, however, Rin is one of the readings of the kanji hayashi, Rin (林; Literally meaning "forest/woods"). Usually when used for a woman's name it's written with the kanji for suzu, Rin (鈴; Literally meaning "a small bell").
